May is Vision Health Month

It’s All Connected …

This month we focus on the connection between eye health and overall health. An exam is more than just checking your vision. Comprehensive eye exams help in early detection of underlying health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and even cancer. Regular eye exams by a Doctor of Optometry play an essential role in maintaining your overall health. The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends that adults have an eye exam every two years, and annually for those over 65. Children should have at least one eye exam between the ages of two and five, and yearly after starting school. Infants should have their first eye exam between six and nine months of age. If you or a family member is at risk for any systemic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke or cancer, more frequcnt eye exams may be required.
